ADA Compliant Modifications We Install

Every upgrade is sized and anchored to ADA standards — built for real daily use, not just a checkbox.

Grab Bars

ADA grab bars require blocking in the wall and precise placement — 33–36" height at the toilet, angled bars at the shower entry. We install to spec and anchor into studs or blocking we install ourselves. No toggle-bolt shortcuts.

Roll-In & Walk-In Showers

Zero-threshold or low-threshold shower entry for wheelchair and walker access. We remove the existing tub or shower barrier, rebuild the floor to drain properly without a curb, and tile the full enclosure. ADA minimum width is 36"×36" — we size to your space.

Comfort-Height Toilets

ADA compliant toilets sit at 17–19" seat height — standard toilets are 14–15". The difference is significant for users with limited knee or hip mobility. We swap the fixture and re-set the flange if the rough-in requires adjustment.

Wider Doorways

ADA requires a 32" clear opening minimum — 36" preferred for wheelchair access. We widen bathroom doorways, reframe the opening, and rehang a new door with lever hardware. Structural work is included in the estimate.

Non-Slip Flooring

Wet bathroom floors are a leading cause of residential falls. We install textured ceramic or porcelain tile with a coefficient of friction rating suited for wet surfaces — and avoid high-gloss finishes that look clean but become slick when wet.

Shower Seats & Benches

Fold-down or built-in tiled shower seats positioned at 17–19" height for seated bathing. We build permanent tiled benches into the shower niche or install ADA fold-down seats anchored into the wall backing we install.

Aging in Place — Built into the House

Why Aberdeen homeowners plan ahead:

  • Falls are the leading cause of injury for adults over 65 — and most happen in the bathroom. A grab bar and zero-threshold shower change that calculus permanently.
  • Home modifications cost a fraction of assisted living. One bathroom remodel often returns years of independent living. The math is not close.
  • ADA features don't look institutional. Modern roll-in showers and comfort-height fixtures are standard in upscale hotel rooms. They read as an upgrade, not a medical device.
  • Resale value holds. Accessible bathrooms appeal to buyers across age groups — especially in a market like Aberdeen where multigenerational households are common.
  • Planning ahead beats emergency retrofitting. Post-surgery or post-fall modifications happen fast, under stress, and cost more. Building now means building right.

NM Construction's Approach

Licensed, insured, and backed by a 2-year workmanship warranty.

ADA bathroom work is not a grab bar bolted into drywall. Done right, it starts with wall backing — blocking installed between studs so the bar holds 250 lbs of lateral load, the ADA minimum. Every grab bar we install is anchored into structural backing we put there, not into whatever happened to be in the wall.

We're a licensed contractor in Aberdeen. That means we pull permits when required, our plumbing work is inspected, and the 2-year workmanship warranty is backed by a real business with a local phone number — not a day laborer with a truck. When the job is done, you'll have documentation of what was installed and where the backing is located, so any future contractor knows what they're working with.
